Academician Xiaojing Zheng of Xidian University Elected an APS Fellow
On October 9, 2026, the American Physical Society (APS) announced its newly elected Fellows for 2026. Professor Xiaojing Zheng of Xidian University was elected an APS (the Division of Fluid Dynamics, DFD) Fellow with the citation: "For profound contributions to the understanding of the environmental particle-laden turbulent flows exemplified by sandstorms, and for the study of large-scale turbulence at extremely high Reynolds numbers measured at a unique observation array in the desert."
In her early career, Professor Xiaojing Zheng conducted research in solid mechanics. Her research findings won high recognition from Prof. Weichang Qian, a renowned scholar in this field, and were adopted by COMSOL, a world famous computational software package. Her election as an APS(DFD) Fellow recognizes and acknowledges her recent research achievements in fluid mechanics. She is among the few researchers in mechanics who have made significant contributions to two main branches of mechanics. This election will help further enhance the international academic influence of Xidian University's mechanics discipline, and facilitate the university's continuous expansion of international exchanges and deepening of practical cooperation.
About APS
Founded in 1899, the American Physical Society (APS) is one of the world’s most prestigious professional physics societies, and the Division of Fluid Dynamics (DFD) is one of APS’s 20 divisions. The APS Fellowship program, established in 1921, honors members who have made major innovative contributions to physics research, applications, education, and leadership. Seven scholars were elected APS (DFD) Fellows in 2026. To date, five scholars from Chinese research institutions have become APS(DFD) Fellows (the other four are affiliated with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tsinghua University respectively).
