徐扬生校长在香港中文大学（深圳）2026年入学典礼上的讲话

　　9月5日，香港中文大学（深圳）举行2026年入学典礼。来自世界各地的5000余名本科生和研究生（含450名国际本科新生）齐聚神仙湖畔，开启崭新的学术旅程。

　　徐扬生校长在讲话中勉励新生将“开眼界”作为大学最重要的课题。他以点菜作喻，鼓励大家打破既有思维框架与GPA的单一衡量，勇于迈出舒适区去尝试陌生领域、拥抱未知。徐校长特别寄语同学们，切勿等待足够自信才开始行动，而要在一次次实践、交流与领悟中拓展认知边界，在行动中建立自信，成长为具有大智慧的创新型人才。

　　Professor Dennis Lo, Professor Nesterov, Professor Wu, dear incoming students, parents and family members, colleagues and friends, good morning!

　　Welcome and thank you for joining us as we gather to witness the beginning of an exciting new journey. This year, over 2000 undergraduate students, over 3000 postgraduate students are joining CUHK-Shenzhen, including international students from 28 countries and regions from across the world. On behalf of the university, I give you my warmest welcome and congratulations! Today you officially become part of the CUHK-Shenzhen community, a community of diversity, openness, and commitment to excellence. From this day forward, this campus will be more than a place where you study. It is my hope that it will be where you discover who you are, what you value, and how you can build meaningful connections with the world beyond. Are you ready?

　　大家上午好！今天，我们齐聚神仙湖畔，举行香港中文大学（深圳）2026年入学典礼，今年我们有来自全国21个省市以及港澳台地区录取的2000多名本科生，包括来自28个国家及地区的450名国际生，以及3000多名硕士、博士研究生加入到香港中文大学（深圳）的大家庭，你们从五湖四海来到这里，带着梦想与憧憬，为这座校园注入了崭新的活力，在此我谨代表大学全体师生欢迎你们的到来！祝贺你们！我亦要感谢Prof. Dennis Lo, Prof. Nesterov, Prof. Wu为同学们带来的精彩演讲，相信会为同学们带来思想的启迪与人生的智慧。

　　同学们，你们来到深圳的这一年，恰逢一个特殊的时刻。2026年11月，亚太经合组织（APEC）第三十三次领导人非正式会议将在深圳举行。深圳，这座四十多年前还是一个边陲小镇，如今已成为亚太乃至全球瞩目的国际大都市。APEC倡导“开放、创新、合作”，而你们所在的这所大学，从创立之初就秉承着“结合传统与现代，融会中国与西方”的使命，六十多年来，这一理念薪火相传，至今未变。今天，与六十年前不一样了，在中国声音愈发掷地有声、受到尊重的时代里，你们站在深圳这片热土上，站在这所承载着中西融通使命的大学里，我希望你们能够更加理解自己所肩负的使命——传扬祖国文化，沟通中西精神，引领人类文明的进步。这是一份沉甸甸的责任，也是一份无上的荣光。

　　Students, for many of you, this may be the first time you have left home. Why is leaving home so important? Because it marks the moment when life becomes larger than what you have previously known. “Home” does not literally mean the place you have lived. It can mean your familiar routines, your comfort zones, your past habits, your previous achievements and disappointments. Whatever they are, do not let them become the walls of your prison. The most important thing about a university education is to step beyond those walls. At this university, I hope you will open your eyes and enlarge your world. And to do that, you need the curiosity to explore and the willingness to try, to make mistakes, and to learn. This is the most important message of my speech today.

　　同学们，在大学的第一天，我想和你们分享的，来到大学最重要的一件事就是“开眼界”。

　　什么叫开眼界？我给大家举一个很小的例子——到饭店里点菜，一桌人坐下，菜单传来传去，最后大家点的还是那些平常比较常吃的菜，因为保险，大家都吃过。可是你想过没有，如果你永远只点你吃过的和你喜欢吃的菜，你这辈子可能就永远尝不到新味道。大学四年，你面前摆着一张巨大的菜单，上面有几千道菜，有你熟悉的，也有你不熟悉的菜系，有你没听过的食材，有看起来有点奇怪的搭配。我想告诉你们，点菜要大胆一点。这顿饭你不敢点，下一顿你还是不敢点，几年下来，你吃的永远是那几样。

　　点菜如此，人生中许多事情都是如此。选课的时候，不要只选那些你觉得可以拿高分的课，不要只选那些你高中就熟悉的领域。去选一门你可能完全不熟悉内容的课，去听一场你完全听不懂的音乐会，去一个你从未去过的地方做调查或者去旅行……你今天旁听的一门哲学课，可能跟你未来的职业毫无关系；你参加的一次跨学科讨论，可能当时完全听不懂。但是，正是这些“没吃过的新菜”，在未来的某一天，可能会突然在你的生命里发光。

　　我记得乔布斯在斯坦福大学演讲时讲过一句话：We have to trust the dots will somehow connect in your future. 他当年旁听了一门书法课，学的是衬线字体和字间距。当时看来有什么用？毫无用处。可是十年后，当他设计第一台Macintosh电脑时，这门课的全部知识都回来了。同学们，如果乔布斯当年不敢去点那道“书法”的菜，就没有后来的手机美学。

　　我说这些话的要点是，要跳出自己的思维框架，因为如果你一直在自己的思维框架里，你就无法创新。现在都在讲人工智能，人工智能的最大弱点就是很难跳出自己的思维框架，它不知道自己不知道什么，这是由它的训练模式所决定的。你去看，手机上你听音乐、刷短视频，都是用AI来“喂食”你，你听得越来越舒服，越来越上瘾，慢慢地就影响了你的思维结构，你的思维结构逐渐固化起来，让你越来越难接触到自己从来没有机会接触的东西，就像去旅行，你总是在你已经去过的地方附近走走。同学们，你要做颠覆性的创新，你就一定要跳出自己固有的思维框架，你要走出自己的舒适区，你就有可能得到大智慧。从中国的传统文化上讲，凡是能用语言描述的东西都不是大智慧，庄子在《外篇·知北游》上讲，“道不可言，言而非也。”大智慧是要用心来领悟的，它的条件是勇敢地跳出自己的思维框架，通过无数次新的尝试和实践的领悟，才有可能产生大智慧。一个人也好，一个集体也好，真正的创新不是取决于它的平均值，而与它的极值和方差有关。

　　Students, the university is not and should not be the repetition of your high school. Your life at this stage should be much more expansive, and much more open-ended. We offer so much more than knowledge accumulation. I would encourage you to go to lectures in a field you have never studied before, join a student club to cultivate your interest, work with peers from different cities, countries, and background, and engage in conversations that challenge your assumptions. Embrace experiences that cannot be quantified by your GPA. This includes a summer spent in volunteering and community service, a book that makes you cry, a game or competition that you and your friends give your all to, even if you lose, a question that stays with you after the class is over.

　　I hope you will be bold enough to explore, brave enough to embrace failure, and wise enough to learn from them. Don’t stay silent in class discussion because you don’t have the correct answer. Don’t shy away from a conversation because you don’t speak perfect English. Don’t walk away from an opportunity because you feel there are better candidates than you. Don’t wait until you feel confident to start doing things. It works the other way around. We become confident by doing.

　　最后，我想和同学们说，你们的大学之旅从今天正式开始，愿你们在这里放下功利，大胆探索；愿你们在这里找到自己，找到使命，找到前行的方向。愿你们在神仙湖畔度过一段充实而美好的大学时光！谢谢大家！
